The Accessible
Synagogue and Beit Midrash

A synagogue that meets the highest standards of accessibility will allow all congregation members to be called up to the Torah, regardless of age and severity of disability. This will include those who use wheelchairs and augmentative and alternative communication.

The synagogue will be a national center where youth and adults can be called up in the traditional manner to the Torah as part of the bar mitzvah coming-of-age service or as a bridegroom on his shabbat chatan. The building will also serve as a beit midrash to teach anyone who wishes to learn about disabilities and integration in the context of the Jewish tradition.
